The Government of Rwanda signs three agreements for the development of Bisesero Concession11.02.2016
Today on 09 February 2016 were signed three large-scale mining agreements between the Government of Rwanda and Tri Metals Mining (Rwanda) Ltd for the development of former Bisesero Concession, Karongi District, and Western Province.
The agreements were signed on behalf of the Government by Honourable Evode IMENA, the Minister of State in Charge of Mining in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Honourable Francis GATARE, the Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda Development Board while Tariq Al BARWANI, the CEO Tri Metals Mining (Rwanda) Ltd signed on behalf of the investor.
With an estimated project value of USD 39 million, Tri Metals Ltd will carry out mining operations to extract mainly Cassiterite (Tin), Niobo-Tantalite (Tantalum and Niobium), Wolframite (Tungsten) and Gold in Bisesero concessions beginning with exploration activities that will last for 5 years.
Talking about the signing ceremony, Chief Executive Officer Rwanda Development Board’s, Hon. Francis GATARE, the said “Rwanda has various types of mineral deposits and we are looking forward to showcase investment opportunities in the mining sector while working with our partners to develop and enable more investments in this sector”.
The Minister of State in charge of Mining in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Hon. Evode IMENA said that “the Government is committed to supporting investments in the mining sector targeting to increase the sector’s production and value addition “
The Bisesero mining concession was discovered in 1930. Today, this concession of 15087 ha is divided into four blocks including the three blocks that are subject to today’s signed agreements.
